Dr. Marc-Oliver Pahl

Course

Dr. Marc-Oliver Pahl is a distinguished researcher and educator specializing in cybersecurity and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. As head of the IoT Smart Space Orchestration team at Technical University of Munich's Chair for Network Architectures and Services, he leads innovative research in smart space technologies and cybersecurity. He holds a Diploma from the University of Tübingen and earned his PhD summa cum laude from TUM. An eLearning pioneer since 2003, he has been teaching at German universities since 2001, receiving multiple teaching awards including the Ernst Otto Fischer teaching prize. His research focuses on developing secure, interoperable IoT systems and smart space orchestration, leading to the development of the Distributed Smart Space Orchestration System (DS2OS). Currently serving as a Professor for Cybersecurity at IMT Atlantique in France and Vice-President of the German Chapter of the ACM, he continues to advance the fields of cybersecurity and IoT through research, teaching, and international collaboration
Stefan Liebald

Stefan Liebald serves as a scientific staff member, lecturer, and PhD student in the Smart Space Orchestration (S2O) team at the Chair of Network Architectures and Services at Technical University of Munich. After receiving his Master's degree in Informatics from TUM in 2016, he has focused his research on Internet of Things, smart space orchestration, and distributed systems. His work includes significant contributions to IoT security taxonomy and service discovery mechanisms. As an educator, he has played a key role in developing the iLabX Massive Open Online Course on network fundamentals and has advised the practical networking course (iLab) at TUM for over four years. His research interests combine computer networks, IoT data management, and innovative teaching methodologies in technical education
Lars Wüstrich

Lars Wüstrich is a PhD student in the Smart Space Orchestration (S2O) team at Technical University of Munich, focusing on security and Internet of Things research. His work has produced significant contributions to IoT security taxonomy and cyber-physical anomaly detection in industrial control systems. His research includes innovative projects such as acoustic channels for data center infrastructure monitoring and network profiling using Linux eBPF. He has co-authored several important papers on machine-learning based IoT data caching and group key management in constrained IoT settings. After participating in the original iLab courses as a student, he joined the team to help create the global iLabX experience, demonstrating his commitment to both research and education in network security and IoT technologies
Jonas Andre

Jonas Andre serves as Research Staff Member at the Technical University of Munich, where he has progressed from Student Assistant to a key contributor in computer networking education. After participating in the original iLab courses as a student, he joined the iLabX team to help develop their innovative Internet Masterclass program, which has educated over 5,000 learners globally. His expertise in wireless networks and computer networking has contributed to making complex technical concepts accessible through the award-winning iLabX methodology. As part of the teaching team alongside Dr. Marc-Oliver Pahl and other researchers, he helps students build their own functional Internet through TUM's virtual Internet laboratory. His work spans both theoretical instruction and practical implementation, guiding students through everything from physical network infrastructure to advanced Internet protocols and security concepts. Through his role in the iLabX program, he continues to advance computer networking education while maintaining his research focus on wireless networks and network architecture.

As a key member of the IoT Smart Space Orchestration (S2O) team, he focuses on using Artificial Intelligence and advanced data analytics to tackle complex IoT challenges including security, usability, resilience, scalability, and performance. His research impact is evidenced through multiple publications on device-specific anomaly detection and autonomous convergence mechanisms for IoT systems, including award-winning work at IEEE/IFIP conferences. As a lecturer for TUM's iLab courses, including the Virtual Internet Laboratory (iLabX), he helps students master practical networking skills while supervising numerous theses on AI-based anomaly detection and network security. Through his collaboration with Professor Marc-Oliver Pahl and the S2O team, he continues to advance IoT optimization while working toward making smart space orchestration as accessible as smartphone app development.
