This capstone provides a hands-on opportunity to demonstrate mastery of maternal and child health concepts and prepare for real-world application. Prerequisites include completion of all other courses in the GW MCH MicroMasters program.

This capstone course integrates knowledge from previous courses in the Maternal and Child Health MicroMasters program, focusing on applying theoretical concepts to real-world challenges. The curriculum covers four main areas: examining adolescent girls' health globally through case studies, analyzing the relationship between women's health and economic empowerment, addressing climate change impacts on maternal and child populations, and developing evidence-based interventions for black maternal health in the United States. Students will learn to analyze population needs, identify strengths at individual and community levels, develop logic models for interventions, craft policy solutions, and communicate effectively through various formats including Op-Eds. Vyas is a Professor at the George Washington University (GW) School of Public Health, where she directs the MPH Maternal and Child Health program and the GW Center of Excellence in Maternal and Child Health. With a PhD in Population and Family Health Sciences and an MHS in Demography from Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Vyas has dedicated her career to improving the health and well-being of adolescent girls and women globally. As the Founder of the Global India Fund and a Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council South Asia Center, she extends her impact beyond academia. Dr. Vyas's contributions to public health education have been recognized with numerous awards, including the GW Bender Teaching Award and the National Delta-Omega Honor Society Award for Innovative Curriculum.
