Barry McCarthy is a Senior Teaching Fellow in Accounting at the School of Management, with expertise in Accounting, Financial Management, and Performance Management. He holds a Master’s degree from the University of Essex and an undergraduate degree from London Guildhall University. With over 15 years of experience as a management consultant in the financial services industry, Barry has a wealth of knowledge in optimizing business efficiency and fostering strategic business growth, particularly with startups and SMEs. He has taught at various UK institutions, including Birkbeck, London South Bank University, and the Open University. A Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, he has collaborated with professional accountancy bodies to create vocational courses. His research focuses on cognitive mapping, financial decision-making tools for SMEs, and performance management in the public sector. He is also the editor and author of two Pearson Custom textbooks.
