The M.Tech. Digital Manufacturing is a Work Integrated Learning Programme (WILP) spanning four semesters. BITS Pilani's Work Integrated Learning Programmes are approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Working professionals can attend live lectures from anywhere over an online technology-enabled platform, mostly on weekends or after business hours. The programme has been designed for engineering professionals employed in industries such as Automotive, Heavy Engineering, Equipment Manufacturing, Precision Engineering, etc. and working in functional areas such as Manufacturing, Production, R&D, Maintenance, Projects, Consultancy, etc. The programme has a special emphasis on concepts such as Additive Manufacturing, Digital Manufacturing, Disruptive Innovation, Data Analytics, and Cybersecurity in Manufacturing. Students have access to virtual simulation and remote labs using DFMA, MATLAB, VCNC, and IoT remote lab. These include Proteus Virtual Lab, DFMA Virtual Lab, Automation Studio Virtual Lab, Design for Additive Manufacturing Lab, Additive Manufacturing Process Lab, Flexible Manufacturing Systems Lab, Embedded System Design Lab, Cyber Security in Manufacturing Lab, Mechanisms and Robotics Lab, and Remote IoT Lab. An annual conclave provides networking opportunities with industry professionals and academicians. The dissertation project in the final semester enables students to apply concepts and techniques learned during the programme.

Applicants must be employed professionals working in Engineering organisations, and holding B.E./ B.Tech. or equivalent in relevant domains with at least 60% aggregate marks. Minimum 1 year of work experience after degree completion in relevant domains is required. The programme is specifically designed for engineering professionals holding BE/ B.Tech. or equivalent in domains such as Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, etc., and working in industries such as Automotive, Heavy Engineering, Equipment Manufacturing, Precision Engineering, etc., and functional areas such as Manufacturing, Production, R&D, Maintenance, Projects, etc. The application process is entirely online through the BITS Pilani Application Centre. Applicants need to submit an Employer Consent Form authorized by their organization's HR or authorized signatory, along with a Mentor Consent Form signed by their chosen mentor. The academic structure consists of four semesters with a mix of core courses and electives, with the fourth semester dedicated to Dissertation/Project Work. The programme uses a Continuous Evaluation System that assesses learners over convenient and regular intervals, providing timely feedback to help busy working professionals stay on course.

The M.Tech. Digital Manufacturing curriculum is designed to provide comprehensive knowledge and skills required for career advancement in digital manufacturing and Industry 4.0. The coursework spans four semesters, with the first three semesters covering required coursework and the fourth semester dedicated to Dissertation/Project Work. Students need to complete at least 12 courses plus a final dissertation. The curriculum includes a mix of core courses and electives. First semester courses include Additive Manufacturing Processes and Advances in Materials Composite & Plastics. Second semester courses include Mechatronics, Precision Engineering, and Design for Additive Manufacturing. Third semester features High Precision Manufacturing, Industrial IoT, and electives. The fourth semester is dedicated to the Dissertation project. Students can choose from a range of electives including Manufacturing Planning and Control, Flexible Manufacturing Systems, Embedded System Design, Big Data Analytics for Manufacturing, Cybersecurity for Manufacturing, Mechanisms and Robotics, Sustainable Manufacturing, and Product Design. The choice of electives is made available to enrolled students at the beginning of each semester, with a limited selection offered at the discretion of the Institute. This allows students to customize their learning experience based on their career goals and interests in specific aspects of digital manufacturing, ranging from additive manufacturing and precision engineering to industrial IoT and cybersecurity.

This internationally recognized approach involves three parties - the student, educational institution, and employer organization - and consists of authentic work-focused experiences as an intentional component of the curriculum. The BITS Pilani Work Integrated Learning Programmes are designed in collaboration with industry partners and subject matter experts, enabling students to remain relevant in their chosen profession. The programme emphasizes experiential learning that allows learners to apply concepts learned in the classroom to simulated and real work situations. This is achieved through Online Labs & Simulations where learners perform a variety of experiments using industry-scale simulation software in virtual labs, controlled experiments in Remote Labs accessing physical lab equipment using remote control systems, and real-life scenarios replicated using simulation games and video-cases. The programme provides access to numerous specialized labs: Proteus Virtual Lab for designing, testing, and debugging embedded systems; DFMA Virtual Lab for product simplification and cost reduction; Automation Studio Virtual Lab for mechatronics circuit design and simulation; Design for Additive Manufacturing Lab using ANSYS additive suite; Additive Manufacturing Process Lab using Autodesk Fusion 360 and Ultimaker Cura; Flexible Manufacturing Systems Lab for metal cutting and CNC/CAM programming; Embedded System Design Lab using MikroC Pro C compiler; Cyber Security in Manufacturing Lab using Kali Linux; Mechanisms and Robotics Lab using MATLAB; and Remote IIoT Lab for creating connected things and remotely controlling water bottling plants. The curriculum includes continuous assessment through graded assignments, quizzes, mid-semester exams, and comprehensive exams. Carefully chosen real-world cases and assignments are used as problem-solving exercises, and the final semester dissertation allows students to apply their knowledge to complex real-world scenarios.
